"Funerals
Miss Mather-Jackson
The funeral of Miss Gertrude Mather-Jackson, daughter of the late Sir Henry Mather-Jackson, Bt., M.P., and sister of the present baronet, of Llantillo Court, Monmouthshire, took place on Wednesday at the family burial place in Llantillo Crossenny churchyard. There was a large attendance of relatives and friends, including Sir Henry and Lady Mather-Jackson, Mr. William Jackson (brother), Miss Gladys Jackson, and Miss Agatha Jackson (nieces), Lord Treowen, Colonel J. A. Bradney, Captain Ceitho Davies and Mr. O. J. Owen (representing Cymrelgyddion y Fenni), Mrs. Codrington Crawshay, and Colonel and the Hon. Mrs. Bleiddian Herbert. The officiating clergy were the Rev. C. Bews (vicar) and the Bishop of North Queensland.
Miss Mather-Jackson was the organisr of the Pageant of Gwent, which took place at Abergavenny on the occasion of the visit of the Natioinal Eistedfodd to the town in 1913. She also organised the White Castle Pageant in 1911.
A correspondant writes:-- Miss Mather-Jackson was one of the early students of Girton College, and passed the Mathematical Tripos in 1880, when the examinations of the University of Cambridge could only be taken informally by women. She was an active worker for the college, as a member of the Council from1884 to 1918, and as resident Junior Bursar from 1891-8. During the war she interested herself in placing women on the land, and later became a member of the Monmouthshire Agricultural Executive Committee. Her many activities brought her a large circle of friends, by whom her loss will be greatly felt."
