linguistic variation and epistemological variation; style, stance and indexicality;
expert discourse and social epistemology. I
am interested in sociolinguistic variation. My research focuses on the
relationship between people’s beliefs and the language that they use to
express them. My PhD research looked at the relationship between epistemic
beliefs (beliefs about the nature of knowledge) and the linguistic expression
of epistemic stance (how you communicate your level of certainty about your
beliefs, and how you came to believe them). |
