Keynote Lectures: Beata S. Javorcik
and Lee
Branstetter
This workshop, organised by the Centre
for Globalisation Research at the School of Business and
Management, Queen Mary, University
of
London, will present a number of papers that study the transmission
of knowledge within and/or across
countries.
While the most visible dimensions of globalisation tend to be the flows
of goods, services, capitals and people, globalisation is also playing
the important role of fostering the international spread of knowledge.
For
instance, multinationals that segment their production lines across
different countries may spillover some of their technology to local,
host-country
firms. Other issues include: patents and citations, multinationals,
universities,
worker mobility, outsourcing, research and development, social
networks, knowledge management, etc.
Keynote lectures will be delivered by Beata Smarzynska
Javorcik (World
Bank) and Lee
Branstetter (Carnegie Mellon University).
Authors of papers accepted at the workshop may also submit their papers
to a special issue of the Review of International Economics
and/or the Review of
Development Economics. It is envisaged that papers accepted,
after undergoing standard peer-review procedures, will be published
during 2007. The conference fee for participants at the workshop is
£100
(£30 for PhD students).
