Michael Warwick

Mr Michael Warwick

 

Michael Warwick is a Ph.D. student in the Binions group and is jointly supervised by Dr. Ian Ridley who is based in the Bartlett School of Urban Planning. Michael's Ph.D. is entitled "New Chemical Vapour Deposition Methods for Energy Efficient Glazing". He is investigating the affect of applied electric fields in chemical vapour deposition reactions on a variety of technologically important metal oxides.

Michael completed his first degree at University College London, his fourth year research project was supervised by Dr. Russell Binions and was entitled "Hybrid Chemical Vapour Deposition of Multifunctional Thin Films".

In his spare time Michael enjoys hats and building towers out of cardboard.

 

Anu Naik

Miss Anu Naik

 

Anu Naik graduated with a first class degree in Chemistry from UCL in 2009, she completed a summer studentship in the Binions Group. Her research is based around new sensors for environmental monitoring. Anu started working towards an Eng.D. qualification sponsored by Chip Sensors and supported through the Materials Modeling and Molecular Science doctoral training centre at UCL and supervised by Dr Binions and Prof. Parkin in October 2010.

 

Emma Newton

Miss Emma Newton

 

Emma Newton gained a first class honours degree in forensic science from the University of Kent. During her undergraduate degree Emma spent a year in industry working for the Home Office on a project entitled "Development of wet origin of footwear impressions from volume crime scenes". Emma is supervised by Dr Russell Binions and Professor Ivan Parkin and is working towards a PhD sponsored by the UCL SECReT programme. Her research is based around a mobile electronic nose for the detection of contranband substances.

 

Luz Maria Romero Nunez

Miss Luz Maria Romero Nunez

 

Luz started a PhD in the Binions group in autumn of 2011. Her project title is "Nanostructured metal oxide thin films from electric field assisted chemical vapour deposition".

 

Louise Anderson

Miss Lousie Anderson

 

Louise completed her M.Sci degree at UCL before beginning a PhD in the Binions group in 2012. Her project title is "Dye sensitized solar cells for energy efficient glazing"

 

Shuqun Chen

Mr Shuqun Chen

 

Shuqun, or "Chenners" as he is affectionately known is a Chinese Scholarship Council student who began working in the Binions group in 2012. His project involves investigating new zinc oxide based transparent conducting oxide materials.
Selma Bambur

Miss Selma Bambur

 

Selma was a final year project student investigating the use of aerosol assisted chemical vapour deposition to prepare thin films of gallium doped zinc oxide. She is currently pursuing an MSc degree in Sustainable Energy Systems and is conducting her research project in the Binions group on new TCO materials.

Jaan is a final year project student. His project is titled "Gold nanoparticle and zinc oxide composite thin films via sol-gel routes"

Yiwei is an intercalated masters project student. His project is titled "Antimony doped zinc oxide thin films via sol-gel routes"

 

Industrial Collaborators in the Binions Lab

 

Dr Leon Cavanagh

Dr Leon Cavanagh

 

Dr Leon Cavanagh is currently an industrial postdoctoral researcher working in the Binions group on a project entitled "MOS Sensors for Environmental Applications".

He is employed by Silicon Labs Ireland as a design engineer and has been responsible for developing new testing circuitry and software.

Leon completed his first degree and doctorate at the University of Limerick, his doctoral thesis is entitled "Developments in Resistive Gas Sensors and Associated Signal Conditioning Circuitry for Electronic Nose Systems".

In his spare time Leon enjoys playing football and drums.

 

Dr Jane Blake

Dr Jane Blake

 

Dr Jane Blake graduated from London Guildhall University with a first class honours degree in Chemistry. She subsequently went onto complete a D.Phil in Physical Chemistry at Oxford University under the supervision of Prof. Richard Compton.

Jane went on to postdoc at University College London for Prof. David Williams before taking up a post working at Capteur Sensors and Analysers. Jane currently works for Slicon Labs Ireland as part oft he team in Dr Binions labs.

Ayo Afonja

Miss Ayo Afonja

 

Dr Ayo Afonja was formally a technical officer and postdoc in the Binions group. Her main responsibilities were building new, and maintaining existing gas sensing equipment.

Ayo's Ph.D. thesis is entitled "Zeolite Modification: Towards Discriminating Gas Sensors" which has been conducted at UCL under the supervision of Prof. Ivan Parkin and Dr. Dewi Lewis.

 

Yung Jyn Chew

Mr Yung Jyn Chew

Yung Jyn was a final year project student investigating the deposition of ZnO and gold nanoparticle composite thin films from aerosol assisted chemical vapour deposition reactions. He is currently pursuing an MSc at UCL.

 

Mr Thanasak

Mr Thanasak Sathitwitayakul

 

Thanasak Sathiwitayakul was a second year undergraduate student who worked in Dr Binions lab over the summer of 2011 on a project titled "New Gas Sensor Materials Fabricated by S.H.S Reactions". Thanasak's work has been written up and published in the journal "Materials Letters". Thanasak is currently studying for a P.h.D at M.I.T.

Chris Bowman was a second year undergraduate student working in Dr Binions lab over the summer of 2011on a UCL BEAMS studentship. Chris's project is titled "Electric Field Assisted Chemical Vapor Deposition of Nanostructured Photocatalytic Thin Film Materials"

 

Mr Naitik Panjwani

Mr Naitik Panjwani

Naitik Panjwani was a second year student who worked on a summer project in Dr Binions lab over summer 2011. Naitik is investigating the effects of electric fields on the aerosol assisted chemical vapor deposition reactions of titanium isopropoxide and their application in gas sensor fabrication. His work has led to a publication in the journal "Chemical Vapour Deposition".

 

Hazel Kitching

Miss Hazel Kitching

 

Hazel Kitching was a 4th year undergraduate student who completed her final year project in the Binions group in the 2010-2011 academic session. Her project was titled "Fluorine Doped Vanadium Dioxide Thin Films by Atmospheric Pressure Chemical Vapour Deposition". Hazel will start a Ph.D. under the supervision of Prof. I.P. Parkin in the autumn of 2011.

 

Giles Greenwood

Mr Giles Greenwood

 

Giles Greenwood graduated in 2010 with a BSc in Chemistry from Birkbeck College, University of London.

Giles worked briefly in the Binions group investigating electrophoretic deposition in non aqueous solvents.

In his past he was a weightlifter and still holds all British records at super heavyweight level.

 

Richard

Mr Richard Smith

 

Richard Smith completed a fourth year project in the Binions group in the 2009-2010 academic session. His project title was "Gas Sensors for Room Temperature Environmental Monitoring"; in which Richard investigated the effect of UV light on metal oxide semi-conductor gas sensors. His work was presented at the Fall 2011 ECS meeting and has been accepted for publication in Electrochemical Society Transactions.

Richard previously completed a summer project (2010) in Dr. Binions lab which covered Zeolite Modified Gas Sensors and Aerosol Assisted Chemical Vapour Deposition of New Supercapacitor Materials.

 

 

Jared

Mr Jared Crane

 

Jared Crane completed a fourth year project student working in the Binions group in the 2009 - 2010 academic session. Jared's project was titled "The Influence of Electric Fields in Aerosol Assisted Chemical Vapour Deposition Reactions". His work has subsequently been published in the Journal oif the Electrochemical Society. Jared is continuing his studies with a Ph.D. in Prof. Ivan Parkin's group also based at UCL.

 

Pragna Kiri

Miss Pragna Kiri

 

Pragna Kiri was a 3rd year undergraduate student who completed a summer studentship (2009) in the Binions group. Her project was titled "Fluorine Doped Vanadium Dioxide Thin Films by Aerosol Assisted Chemical Vapour Deposition Methodologies" and has since been published in the journal Thin Solid Films. Pragna wrote a 3rd year literature project titled "Solid State Thermochromic Materials" that was published in Advanced Materials Letters.
