The amyloid-beta peptide is a 40-42 amino acid neuropeptide generated when the beta-amyloid precursor protein in cleaved at the cell transmembrane region.

Cu(II) and Zn(II)have been implicated in the misfolding of A-beta in vivo. Ab binds Cu(II) via three Histidine residues (His6, 13 and 14), and our studies also implicate the N-terminus as the fourth ligand in a square planar complex (1)
